While this site does work on mobile, it looks much better on a desktop!
Left-click and hold to rotate the scene. Use the upper menu on the left to jump to a section of The Loop and use lower menu to jump to a part of that section. A next to the name means you can zoom in more than normal.
You may travel clockwise or counter-clockwise around The Loop by clicking on the arrows on the scene! Most scenes are .5 to 1.0 miles apart from each other.
Be on the lookout for secret locations and information hotspots!
I started capturing photos in early September 2020 with a Mavic 2 Pro. I could only take the photos around noon so the sun was above the drone (and it was 100 degrees out). So pretty much, I was limited to 2 hours max but that inlcuded travelling to each spot, usally on bike. On average, I was able to do 6 locations per outing. To date, I have 132 scenes which comes out to about 22 days or 44 hours just for capturing the photos. Each scene consists of 26 individual photos merged together either onboard the drone automatically or after the fact on my PC. The camera cannot see above the drone (thus why the sun had to be above the drone), so the sky is filled in using photoshop.
All or most of the southern (Julian Wash Greenway) and eastern part of the loop (Harrison Greenway and some of the Pantano) are in DM airspace and required special permission and communication with the DM tower. Please read the disclaimer below.
This entire project was completed very carefully following all federal, state, county, and city rules. Before operating your drone, make sure you do so as well.
Most flights took place in uncontrolled Class G airspace with no nearby airports. Some took place near hosiptals with helipads and others took place in Class G near an aiport. In both cases proper steps were taken to ensure we did not interfere with manned aircraft. Some took place in Controlled Class C airspace (DMAFB and TUS) and proper authorizations were obtained and altitude ceilings were observed as well as any other stipulations in the authorization.
